David Krejci Contract: Boston Bruins Smart to Sign Center for 3 More Years
David Krejci and the Boston Bruins have agreed to a new three-year contract extension, according to the team’s official Web site, to keep the scoring leader of the 2011 NHL playoffs with the team through the 2014-15 season.
With all the trade speculation surrounding Krejci in recent days due to his poor start and the rumors that Anaheim’s Bobby Ryan may be available, there were some anxious fans hoping that he would not leave.
Krejci said the following in a December 1 CSNNE.com article:
“I love the city. I love the team. Everybody really gets along well. We are winning,” said Krejci when asked about the trade rumors. “I like to be on a winning team and I like to have a chance to win the Cup. This is the team, you know? I would like to have a chance to stay here.
“There were some talk about me getting traded, but I didn’t even know about it. I try to focus on my game and stay away from these things.”
The Bruins made a smart move re-signing Krejci. He is a fantastic playmaker with goalscoring ability, and he’s very responsible in his own zone.
Like many of his teammates at center, Krejci is superb defensively and helps the Bruins create scoring chances by getting the job done in their own end.
Krejci’s goal and two assists Wednesday night in a win against the Toronto Maple Leafs helped the Bruins complete a month of November in which they did not lose a game in regulation, accomplishing that feat for the first time since January 1969.
Krejci had struggled this season for a little over a month but after the Maple Leafs win Wednesday he finally seems to be showing what he’s capable of, and that’s being a point-per-game player.
With the signing of Krejci, Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli has signed nearly all of the team’s core players for several more seasons.
Winger Rich Peverley earned a three-year extension earlier this season, and defenseman Adam McQuaid received a three-year deal in the summer.
Other notable free agents at the end of this season for Boston are goaltender Tuukka Rask, defenseman Johnny Boychuk and forwards Chris Kelly, Daniel Paille and Gregory Campbell.
