NHL All-Star Skills Competition: Watch Kane Break a Puck into Four Pieces
The NHL All-Star Skills Competition saw just a bit of everything tonight.
Patrick Kane played a big role in putting a lot of highlights throughout the night.
The first was his “Superman” cape that he had Chicago Blackhawk teammate Marian Hossa attach to his back during the Breakaway Challenge.
Hossa also brought Kane a pair of glasses, with the lenses popped out, so he looked like someone out of the 1980s.
That brought the crowd to life, as the Breakaway Challenge (with the exception of Corey Perry’s lacrosse-style goal) had been pretty boring up until that point.
But Patrick Kane was not finished.
Kane came in and uncorked a slap shot on St. Louis goaltender Brian Elliott.
Fortunately for Elliott, he never had to stop the puck.
In fact, he never even touched the puck.
The puck simply disintegrated into multiple pieces.
If you watch the video clearly, you can see three distinct pieces of the puck fly out.
A fourth piece was later found behind the goal.
I wonder if Kane trained with Zdeno Chara (who hit a 108.8 MPH slap shot) during the event as well, because he absolutely demolished this puck (both in the figurative and the literal sense).
Kane’s rocket puck-breaking shot, as well as his Superman cape and glasses antics, during the Breakaway Challenge vaulted him into first place, and he took home the fan vote for best breakaway effort among his three chances.
