NHL Free Agents: Nashville Defenseman Shea Weber Awarded $7.5m in Arbitration
Nashville Predators defenseman Shea Weber was awarded $7.5 million for the upcoming NHL season by an arbitrator today, according to an Associated Press report via the Washington Post.
Weber will become the fifth-highest paid defenseman in the league.
The Predators decided to take their captain to arbitration, and argued he should receive $4.75 million this year, while his agent wanted $8.5 million.
If Weber is not signed to a multi-year deal, he will become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
Weber had 48 points last season for the Predators, and was a finalist for the 2011 Norris Trophy.
