San Jose Sharks vs. Phoenix Coyotes: Opening Night 2011 Live

The crazy NHL offseason for the San Jose Sharks has taken us to this destination, Opening Night 2011 at HP Pavilion with a whole different brigade of players in Saturday’s starting lineup.

The Sharks and Minnesota Wild love affair this offseason sent Dany Heatley and Devin Setoguchi to Minnesota for Martin Havlat and Brent Burns in two separate deals. They helped both teams immensely with the Wild acquiring offensive prowess, and San Jose acquiring a defensive main-stay along with help in the speed department.

However, if you had told anyone that the Sharks would lose Setoguchi and Heatley this offseason, they would have thought all Stanley Cup Finals hopes were gone for San Jose. But the Sharks are again legitimate contenders probably, now more than ever.

Saturday night, the Sharks will be without starting goaltender Antti Niemi and key offseason acquisition Havlat. Instead, it will be Thomas Greiss in net and youngster Tommy Wingels at the wing.

Sharks hockey is back!
